Ok, today we're getting down to brass tacks. Very few things upset me more than poorly run meetings. Each wasted hour means time away from my family and priorities. My days at Google would be back to back meetings, sometimes fifteen in a day. So, my post-kid survival is dependent on being ruthless.
Your challenge for the next two weeks: Take control of your calendar. This week, take stock of the current state of affairs. Next, we'll work on strategies for improving. Trust me, your entire team will thank you.
Each AM, do a meeting purge. Does each meeting need to happen at all? If it does, do you need to be there? Try to get at least 30 minutes back.
During the day, rate each meeting. Either print out your calendar or assign colors in your online one.
Green: Great use of my time
Yellow: Needed, but could be improved.
Red: Waste of time
Make notes on what worked and didn't:
Were the right people in the room?
Was there an agenda and clear goal? Was it sent ahead of time?
Were notes sent out after?
Need motivation? Schedule some 'me time' in the hours that you are already saving. You deserve it.
